Alpha is a pirate and she is all badass with her mohawk, yet she also has this contrast side of her where tenderness can easily be found. View all 7 comments. That is one masterful character development on Howard’s part!
Of course I have my own process though it changes and based on the process that works sometimes! I highly recommend Rootless to readers who enjoy harder science fiction with a focus on world building and storytelling. As they race towards a promised land that might only be a myth, Banyan makes shocking discoveries about his family, his past, and how far people will go to bring back the trees.

Chris Howard oozes modesty and charm, and does rootlss fabulous job of connecting with his audience.

All the characters in this book were interesting, but Alpha was by far one of my howqrd. I’m just so in love with this book, and cannot wait for the next in the series. A fantastic and fantastical tale This excerpt is taken from my review on Into the Hall of Books. Everyone’s got to have something to believe in, that’s what Pop always told me. If you’re into cyberpunk, dystopia, biopunk or just plain ol’ sci-fi, this is the book for you.
There were mentions of lava fields, and the ocean being higher and stronger, but I feel like this area of the story was far too weak. A lot of twists, actually.

Those who make it past the pirates and poachers can’t escape the locusts This astoundingly compelling and immensely satisfying novel tells the story of Banyan, a year-old tree builder and an artist, who dedicated his whole life to creating trees from pieces of scrap metal and electronic elements, and is now about to be launched on a wild quest to find his missing father and the remaining trees on Earth.
It wasn’t the constant crescendo that makes me swallow books in one seat. Banyan works as a tree builder. Some of the artists that influence me while writing would be, in no particular order: The book is labeled YA, but I don’t think it’d be appropriate for anyone younger than Publisher’s Summary Seventeen-year-old Banyan is a tree builder.
