I think he might just be right.

What it’s really about is Rabo Karabekian, ageing hermit, art collector, and life-regretter with a secret something in his potato barn. It was everything jam packed into a small little book: These very panels upon which Windsor Blue used to cover fully became the canvases Karabekian would prime back to pure white and use for his last work locked within his potato barn.

His experiences as an advance scout in the Battle of the Bulge, and in particular his witnessing of the bombing of Dresden, Germany whilst a prisoner of war, would inform much of his work.

Scheming with a smile

It was going to kill all the bugs, and almost did. Vonnegut did a good research about Armenian history and culture in order to make his character and his feelings more realistic. Bluebead good a read as all of the previous books of Vonnegut’s that I’ve read, while it didn’t quite scale the heights of some of his best, his middle efforts still reach much higher vonndgut most others. Vonnegut seems to be saying that if we hang on to that hope, and practice it when we can then that is enough and we should be content.

And we do get to find out what Bluebeard keeps in his potato barn. But what’s in that potato barn? All you have to do… is look at a million paintings, and they you can never be mistaken.
