I am thinking of making a Quenya course for English speakers. Although it’ll take me a while to consider the benefits and disadvantages, I have a pretty good. Norwegian – various translators qudnya finally rendered much of my material into my native tongue I have to write for an international audience myself! Real languages have more history behind their development than fictional languages so I don’t see why Duo wouldn’t work for Quenya but does for the multitude of real-world languages it offers.

I’m coming to agree with you that Duolingo is not the place to learn “real” Elvish either Quenya, or Sindarin, let alone Telarin, Nandorin, etc. I have invariably granted permission for such translations to be made, as long as I am recognized as the author.

So should the Duolingo course follow one example or the other? My Quenya course has since been translated into Polish by Vendis and Elanor from the Elendili Forum ; their Polish version can be found here. Let’s make this course happen! Take Norwegian as an example, they started with a Norwegian course and later specified that they were teaching Bokmal, which is a dialect or a specific way of writing the language.

As for my Quenya aprendre, I quenyw there now exist several Spanish translations; here is one by Antonio Palomino. I already have been learning them on other websites. I think course creators should choose the most popular resource, and other important resources should be treated as dialects. Parma Eldalamberon is the qudnya major journal about Tolkein’s languages and is also very good, although the website is frustratingly terrible and out of date.
Spanish – translated by various translators; the most complete and up-to-date non-English version. Of course it would still be difficult to choose the source. Indeed, if the course were based on David Salo’s Sindarin that is used in the movies, I would have to decry it as something wholly different from Tolkien’s Sindarin. I have been learning Quenya for years, but I must say I struggle quena there are not many people to practice with.

Real languages have internal history; they have changed over time but you can learn the modern form apreneer the language. They give the option to explain words, so I think they could explain it as they teach it.

Look how fast Valyrian came up, it wasn’t even in beta not to mention finished last week, and a few weeks before that wasn’t even being made! Which brings up the point of why it would be so difficult perhaps not impossible, but extremely tricky to create a Duolingo course on Quenya. I know there are some courses also available on the internet 20 years ago even I queya a webpage where we had some basicsbut a Duo quwnya is a Duo course – best way to learn.
It is difficult to interpret Quenya because it was always a work in progress. As for Ryszard’s comprehensive Sindarin Dictionary, you can read about it quenja. I think that would be great, I know several guys who might be interested in such a parender, and I suppose there are many more – Tolkien’s fans are numerous Indeed, the pronouns in Quenya tend to be quite slippery and Tolkien changed his mind about them and many other things just about every time he sat down to write something!
